Over lakh cusecs water in River Sabarmati in Ahmedabad; Lower Promenade under Water

Sabarmati: With over 1.20 lakh cusecs inflow of water from upstream Dharoi dam and Sant Sarovar, 27 gates of Vasna barrage in river Sabarmati in Ahmedabad were opened for release of water to downstream towards sea, through areas of Ahmedabad district. With this, the lower promenade of Sabarmati Riverfront was submerged in river Sabarmati’s flood water.
Discharge from Vasna barrage was as high as 93,658 cusecs at 5 pm at 131 ft level. Peak flow at Vasna barrage had been 1.85 lakh cusecs in 2017, followed by 90,000 cusecs in 2019 and 50,000 cusecs in 2022. In 2025, the count has been 1.06 lakh cusec so far at 2 pm today. Policemen were deployed at Sabarmati riverfront to stop the people going close to the river. Police vans with loud speakers were seen roaming through the low lying villages alongside river Sabarmati in downstream area asking people not to venture in riverbed or in low lying areas due to possibility of flood.
