Danger of flood in Vadodara averted

Vadodara: In a relief to the city of Vadodara, the possibilities of flood are averted by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) by shutting the 62 gates of Ajwa dam that were opened a day ago. The relief is also due to no significant rainfall in Vadodara and Panchmahal districts on Saturday/Sunday. Had there been heavy rains, the river Vishwamitri in Vadodara could cross danger level of 26 ft.

As per the rule, the level os 212.50 ft needs to be maintained in Ajwa dam by 30th September. As the level crossed 212.95 ft mark, 62 gates were opened and therefore Vishwamitri river cross 21.50 ft mark on Sunday. However at 1 pm, the gates were shut.

With Ajwa dam’s gates shut and no significant rain in catchment, the level of Vishwamitri started going down and was at 17.39 at 9 am on Monday, giving relief to the city. It’s worth noting that the danger mark is 26 ft and flood gets widespread across the city after 31 ft. DeshGujarat
