Gambhira Bridge Inspected Two Months Before Collapse: Gujarat Govt

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government informed the Assembly on Monday that the Gambhira bridge, which collapsed on July 9 claiming 22 lives, had been inspected barely two months earlier.

On the first day of the Monsoon Session, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who also holds the Roads and Buildings portfolio, during Question Hour stated that four officials from the department were suspended for negligence following the tragedy.

The incident occurred when a section of the four-decade-old bridge near Gambhira village in Vadodara caved in, sending several vehicles plunging into the Mahisagar river.

In a reply to a question, the CM said the bridge was inspected on May 15 and clarified that the department had not received any complaint about its safety in the six months leading up to the collapse. DeshGujarat
