Veer Savarkar Naranpura Sports Complex can Host 18 Types Of Sports; Opening Today

Ahmedabad: The newly constructed Naranpura Sports Complex, a Central Government project built on 21 acres at a cost of ₹823 crore is opening today. Designed to host 18 different sports, the facility is equipped with international-level infrastructure to stage major tournaments, including the Asian Aquatic Championships and World Weightlifting Championships. It may also serve as a venue when the Commonwealth Games, Olympics, or National Games are held in Ahmedabad.

Key Facilities

Aquatic Complex: A 51.5m x 25m x 3m pool, built to FINA standards, supports swimming, artistic swimming, and water polo. It can be adjusted for different competition formats, with seating for 1,750 spectators.

Indoor Multi-Sports Arena: A column-free 81m x 18m hall, with a capacity of 5,200 spectators, suitable for multiple indoor sports and tournaments.

Centre for Sports Excellence (Sports Excellence House):

Two large halls for badminton, basketball, volleyball, taekwondo, kabaddi, wrestling, and other floor sports.

Column-free triple-height space (41m x 24m).

Accommodation for 300 athletes and 8 coaches.

Sports science and nutrition labs, gym, steam room, dining hall, and kitchen.

Outdoor Sports Zone: International-class courts for lawn tennis, basketball, and volleyball.

Community Sports Centre: Six badminton courts, six table tennis courts, six squash courts, a 20-lane indoor shooting range, cafeteria, library, aerobics room, and gym.

Fit India Zone (Public Access): Citizens can use the yoga lawn, gym, jogging track, skating rink, and kho-kho grounds free of charge. The area also includes seating spaces and children’s play zones.

Additional Infrastructure

Parking capacity for 800 two-wheelers and 850 four-wheelers, with utility plazas.

A 275 kW solar power plant and a 60 KLD sewage treatment plant.

Warm-up pool, Jacuzzi (water massager), kitchen facilities, and open spaces.
