September 18, 2025
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has approved the formation of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to oversee the comprehensive redevelopment of Sarkhej-Gandhinagar (SG) Road into an iconic landmark.
According to a TOI report, the SG Road redevelopment has been identified as a high-priority project. The proposed SPV will be vested with special powers and dedicated funds to ensure timely and effective execution.
The SPV will be chaired by the principal secretary of the Urban Development Department (UDD), with the municipal commissioner serving as its managing director. The state government has allocated ₹400 crore for the project. Planned works include traffic management measures, new parking facilities, green zones, food streets, recreational spaces, public utility areas, and systematic development along both sides of the road. A permanent workforce will also be assigned for cleaning and maintenance.
The project is expected to take around three years to complete and is being targeted for delivery ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, for which India has bid with Ahmedabad as the proposed host city. DeshGujarat
