Gujarat Vidyapith marks ‘Rentia Baras’ with mass spinning event at Sabarmati Riverfront

Ahmedabad: On the occasion of Rentia Baras, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as per the traditional Gujarati calendar and founder of Gujarat Vidyapith, a large-scale collective spinning event was organized today at the Sabarmati Riverfront from 8 am to 9 am under the “Seva Pakhwada” initiative.

Around 2,000 students of Gujarat Vidyapith, along with academic and non-academic staff members, enthusiastically took part in the event. The rhythmic sound of spinning wheels created an inspiring atmosphere resonating with Gandhi’s values and philosophy.

The chief guest at the event was Gujarat Minister for Cottage and Rural Industries, Jagdish Vishwakarma. In his address, he highlighted the relevance of Gandhi’s principles of self-reliance, swadeshi, and service in the present era. “Today, khadi has become a modern trend across the country, and to further popularize it, Gujarat Vidyapith has organized this meaningful celebration of Rentia Baras at the Sabarmati Riverfront,” he said.

The occasion also revisited Gandhi’s vision of swadeshi and self-reliance. Gandhi believed that swadeshi was not merely an economic concept but a way of life that provided employment to villages and strengthened local economies. He advocated self-reliance as the true path to progress. These ideals remain relevant today, forming the foundation of initiatives such as “Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion” and “Make in India.” DeshGujarat
