Railways to issue QR code ID cards to food vendors at Ahmedabad division
September 18, 2025
Ahmedabad: In a move aimed at enhancing passenger safety and ensuring food quality, the Railways will soon issue QR code-enabled identity cards to all food vendors operating at Ahmedabad railway station, across the division’s other stations, and onboard trains. The initiative will allow passengers to instantly verify whether a vendor is licensed and authorized to sell food.
According to railway officials, the identity cards will be distributed by the end of this month. By scanning the QR code on the card, passengers and authorities will be able to access key details such as the vendor’s name, medical fitness certificate, police verification date and validity, the approved unit, and the license holder’s name. This system is expected to curb unauthorized vending and ensure that only verified vendors operate within railway premises.
In the first phase, vendors at major stations including Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Asarva, and Maninagar will be issued ID cards. Subsequently, the scheme will be extended to vendors across other stations in the division.
Railway authorities added that apart from improving security, the initiative is also expected to enhance the quality of food items being sold at stations and on trains, benefiting passengers with a safer and more reliable travel experience. DeshGujarat
