Two AAP Corporators Booked in Surat
September 23, 2025
Surat: A woman corporator from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has lodged a police complaint against two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) corporators, alleging that they made casteist remarks against her during the Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) general body meeting.
Bhavanaben Chimanbhai Solanki, Corporator of Ward No. 2, Amroli, filed the complaint at Lal Gate police station on Monday. In her complaint, she named AAP corporators Rachnaben Ankur Hirpara of Yogi Chowk and Maheshbhai Keshavbhai Anaghan of Sarthana Jakatnaka, accusing them of insulting her caste in the presence of several corporators.
According to the complaint, Bhavanaben Solanki, who belongs to a Scheduled Caste community, was seated in the secretary’s section on the fourth floor along with other corporators who had gathered to submit written questions on civic issues. After she occupied seat number 2, AAP corporators Rachnaben Hirpara and Mahesh Anaghan allegedly made derogatory remarks, saying that people of her caste “remain backward and belong to a lower community,” and added that she had “crossed all limits.”
Bhavanaben alleged that these remarks were casteist, derogatory, and highly offensive, causing humiliation not only to her but also to other Scheduled Caste members present.
The remarks, she added, insulted the entire Scheduled Caste community in front of nearly 18 other corporators present. Based on her complaint, Lal Gate police have registered a case against the two AAP corporators under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
