September 30, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) plans to add nearly 3,000 electric buses to its fleet as the city prepares its potential bid for the 2036 Olympic Games.
The induction of e-buses will take place in phases from 2025-26 to 2030-31, considering Ahmedabad’s growing population and Olympic preparations. In the first phase, 449 buses are expected, with 225 replacing existing CNG buses and 224 requiring new parking facilities. Between 2027-28 and 2030-31, over 1,582 additional buses will be added.
To accommodate the expanded fleet, AMTS is acquiring land from reserved plots along the SP Ring Road and developing new depots and parking facilities. The agency also plans to seek state government grants to prepare new routes and depots on the outer SP Ring Road. DeshGujarat
