Light to moderate rain likely in parts of South Gujarat till Oct 24: IMD forecast
October 21, 2025
Ahmedabad: Though the monsoon has long withdrawn and the Diwali festival is being celebrated across the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in the South Gujarat districts of Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, and in the Union Territories of Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli during the next few days.
From October 21 to October 25, these areas may experience intermittent rain or thundershowers, while dry weather is expected to prevail in the remaining districts of Gujarat.
The IMD forecast further indicates that from October 25 onward, weather conditions are likely to turn dry across all districts of the state. Overall, South Gujarat is expected to witness some light post-monsoon activity through the week, with gradual clearing and dry conditions from October 26 onward.
This rainfall prediction comes as three weather systems remain active — including a well-marked low-pressure area in the southeast Arabian Sea, a newly formed low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, and an upper-air cyclonic circulation persisting off the Kerala coast in the Arabian Sea.
According to the IMD, the well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Arabian Sea persisted over the same region at 0530 hrs IST on October 21, 2025, and is likely to move slowly westwards and intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours.
Under the influence of yesterday’s upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal at 0530 hrs IST today (October 21, 2025). The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is expected to move west-northwestwards, intensifying further into a depression over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 36 hours.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea off the Kerala coast, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, also persists. A trough extending from this system across the southeast Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal at around 0.9 km above mean sea level also remains active.
Meanwhile, an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over northwest Rajasthan and its neighbourhood between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above mean sea level, along with a trough extending eastwards to central Madhya Pradesh across east Rajasthan.
A Western Disturbance, observed as a trough in the mid-tropospheric westerlies with its axis at about 5.8 km above mean sea level, now runs roughly along longitude 66°E to the north of latitude 25°N and continues to persist. DeshGujarat
