Locals shower flowers on cops as they rescue 6-month-old abducted child in hours

Gujarat: In the past 25 days, Gujarat Police have successfully resolved two child kidnapping cases in record time. During the Diwali festivities, a six-month-old infant was abducted from a busy market, but Kalol Taluka Police in Gandhinagar district managed to trace and rescue the child within 17 hours, returning him safely to his parents.

The incident occurred when Kalaben Anvarbhai Mir, along with her sister-in-law Lashaben, her two sons—Samir (8) and Shahrukh (6 months, 12 days)—and her brother-in-law’s son Shabir, went to Kalol in the morning to celebrate Diwali.

Around 2 PM, the family got down from a rickshaw near Chhatral Bridge on Lunasan Road, where they encountered an unknown woman who spoke Gujarati and briefly interacted with Kalaben about the children. By 2:30 PM, Kalaben and her sister-in-law were sitting near a lassi cart on the service road, with Shahrukh placed on the table alongside his elder brothers. Kalaben then went to a nearby medical store to buy balm.

When they returned, Shahrukh was missing. The boys informed them that a woman in a green saree, who had been nearby, had taken the baby. The lassi vendor also confirmed seeing the woman carrying the child toward Chhatral Bridge. Despite immediate searching by Kalaben and Lashaben around the bridge and toward Rajpur, neither the woman nor the child could be located.

The family approached the police, who worked tirelessly through the Gujarati New Year to trace the kidnapper and the child. Police received intelligence that the suspect—a dark-complexioned, medium-built woman of about 40 years, wearing a green saree with white patterns—had been moving through areas including Mehsana, Kadi, and Sanand. Multiple police teams were deployed to track her movements, eventually leading to her arrest and the safe recovery of the child.

The family expressed their gratitude to the police for their swift and diligent efforts.

Earlier, on the night of September 26, a one-and-a-half-year-old child was reported missing at Kadodara GIDC Police Station in Surat district. The Kadodara PI and LCB teams immediately sprang into action. Using CCTV footage and local intelligence, they identified the woman responsible. Acting on information from the kidnapper’s neighbor, the police intercepted her at Bardoli Railway Station and safely recovered the child. DeshGujarat
