IMD issues yellow alert for heavy rain & thundershowers till Oct 26 in parts of Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Several places in Gujarat are expected to receive light to moderate rain in the coming days, according to the latest 7-day forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). However, over the next four days, many districts are likely to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The IMD stated in its forecast that yesterday’s depression over the southeast Arabian Sea moved slowly northeastward at a speed of 5 kmph over the past six hours. As of this morning, it was centered near latitude 9.8°N and longitude 67.8°E, about 560 km west-southwest of Aminidivi (Lakshadweep) and 910 km southwest of Panjim (Goa). It is expected to move nearly north-northeastward across the southeast Arabian Sea towards the east-central Arabian Sea during the next 24 hours.

According to the latest bulletin, light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain, are very likely at isolated places in Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and in Daman, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli during the next 24 hours.

Forecast by day:

  • 24th October: Light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain, are very likely at isolated places in Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and in Daman, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli. In the Saurashtra-Kutch region, isolated places in Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, and in Diu are also likely to receive similar conditions.

  • 25th October: Heavy rains are very likely at isolated places in South Gujarat districts, including Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli. In Saurashtra-Kutch, isolated places in Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and in Diu may also experience heavy rainfall.

  • 26th October: Heavy rains are very likely at isolated places in South Gujarat districts, including Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli. In Saurashtra-Kutch, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and in Diu are likely to experience heavy rainfall. The rest of the state may witness light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain at isolated places.

  • 27th–28th October: All districts of Gujarat are expected to receive light to moderate rain.

  • 29th October: Light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places in Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli. Saurashtra-Kutch districts, including Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch, and in Diu, may also receive light to moderate rain.
