October 25, 2025
Gandhinagar: On the occasion of its 93rd anniversary, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to launch the inaugural Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon (SIM-2025) on 2 November 2025 at HQ SWAC, Vayu Shaktinagar, Gandhinagar. The event is open to all and aims to celebrate the spirit, discipline, and valor of the IAF while promoting fitness and unity across the nation.
The marathon pays tribute to Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only IAF officer to be awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest wartime gallantry award, for his unmatched courage during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. “This unique marathon is not just a race – it’s a movement of respect, endurance, and national pride,” an official statement from the IAF said.
The Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon offers three categories for participants. The Half Marathon (21.097 km) is open to runners aged 18 and above, starting at 5:30 AM, and includes a T-shirt and medal. The 10 km run is for participants aged 14 and above, starting at 6:00 AM, also including a T-shirt and medal. The 5 km fun run welcomes runners aged 10 and above, starting at 6:30 AM, with the same inclusions. All categories have an entry fee of ₹299.
Participants are encouraged to run together to honor the legacy of the national hero and embody the IAF motto: “Touch the Sky with Glory.”
