Rains Lash Unjha in Mehsana; Underpass, Low-Lying Areas Waterlogged

Mehsana: Unjha town and surrounding rural areas experienced an abrupt change in weather early this morning, with rain accompanied by strong winds bringing a sudden chill to the atmosphere. The unexpected downpour, predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department, caused waterlogging on roads in low-lying areas across the region. The sudden rainfall has also created concern among farmers, who fear potential damage to their standing crops.

Several parts of Mehsana district, particularly Unjha and Bahucharaji talukas, were affected by the heavy rain. Low-lying areas of Unjha town experienced significant water accumulation. The main railway underpass in the town was submerged, forcing authorities to close it immediately to ensure public safety and prevent accidents. This closure disrupted traffic, compelling commuters to take longer alternate routes.

A pickup vehicle also got stranded in the underpass. The driver attempted to cross despite rising water levels, but the vehicle stalled midway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though those inside the vehicle faced temporary hardship.

Authorities have initiated prompt measures to drain the water from the railway underpass. Pumps are being used to remove the water, aiming to reopen the underpass to traffic as soon as possible. However, locals expressed frustration over the lack of proper drainage infrastructure and are urging authorities to modernize the system to prevent such recurring disruptions. The underpass will only be reopened once the water is fully cleared and safety is ensured. DeshGujarat
