Vadodara woman held for role in international ‘cyber slavery’ racket

Vadodara: The Cyber Centre of Excellence of the Gujarat Police on Tuesday arrested a Vadodara-based woman for her involvement in the massive cyber slavery racket busted earlier. With her arrest, the total number of accused held in this case has now risen to at least six, including the alleged kingpin, Neel Purohit.

According to the CID, the accused, Payal Chauhan, worked as a sub-agent and targeted youths from Gujarat through social media, offering lucrative job opportunities abroad. Instead, the victims were trafficked to Southeast Asian countries and handed over to the Chinese cyber mafia, where they were forced to carry out cybercrimes.

As per the police, the accused, who holds an engineering diploma from a private university in Vadodara, allegedly earned commissions of up to ₹3 lakh per trafficked individual.

During the probe, officials recovered passport serial numbers from her phone and are now verifying whether these passport holders are genuine and whether they are victims or part of the network, according to CID (Cyber Crime) officer Vivek Bheda. Notably, it has come to light that at least three youths from Gujarat were trafficked by Chauhan.

Besides trafficking, Chauhan was allegedly involved in other cyber fraud activities, including providing USDT and crypto accounts and supplying master gaming IDs used for illegal betting operations.

Over the past three years, several Indians trapped in such cybercrime camps across Myanmar and Thailand have been rescued through coordinated operations involving authorities from India, Thailand and Myanmar. DeshGujarat
