Repairs on Vadodara-Vapi Stretch of Ahmedabad – Mumbai Highway to wrap up by Feb 2026

Ahmedabad: The post-monsoon repair works being carried out on the Vadodara to Vapi section of National Highway-48 (NH-48), connecting Ahmedabad to Mumbai, are set to be completed by February 2026, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said.
In a reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister confirmed that maintenance and safety improvement works on the Gujarat stretch of NH-48 are progressing steadily.
The reply stated, “The maintenance of National Highways is a continuous process and is being carried out through existing concessionaires/contractors and maintenance contractors appointed in the project corridor of the Ahmedabad–Mumbai section of NH-48. The section of NH-48 from Vadodara to the Maharashtra border in the state of Gujarat lies in a high rainfall region and carries up to 1.5 lakh Passenger Car Unit (PCU) traffic. Damages and pothole formations have been reported at some locations on the Vadodara–Bharuch–Surat–Vapi section. Post-monsoon, maintenance activities, including overlay works, have been taken up in full swing with scheduled completion by February 2026.”
Furthermore, the Minister said, “In the Vapi to Dahisar section of NH-48, as a long-term solution, the work of white topping is at an advanced stage, with revised scheduled completion by March 2026.”
Additionally, to enhance the safety of road users and pedestrians, the government has sanctioned the following structures on the Vadodara–Mumbai corridor of NH-48:

Vadodara to Surat section: 19 new structures, including bridges, flyovers, and vehicular underpasses.

Surat to Vapi section: 9 new structures, including bridges, flyovers, and vehicular underpasses, along with 6 foot overbridges.

Vapi to Dahisar section: 7 new vehicular underpasses and 10 new foot overbridges.
