Gold worth ₹1 crore goes missing from Indian Bank in Rajkot; police probe underway
December 16, 2025
Rajkot: A major theft has come to light at a public sector Indian Bank branch located near Bhaktinagar Station Plot on Gondal Road, where gold worth around Rs 1 crore has gone missing from the bank’s strong room. The missing gold belonged to customers who had deposited it as collateral for gold loans. The incident surfaced during an internal audit conducted in March, which revealed that nearly 1 kg of gold was unaccounted for, triggering concern among bank officials.
After the bank’s internal inquiry failed to establish how the theft occurred, the matter was reported to the A Division Police Station, where a preliminary complaint has been registered. The police have launched an intensive investigation, and a forensic team from the Gandhinagar Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has also been roped in to assist.
Investigators suspect possible involvement of internal bank staff, and questioning of employees and bank officials is likely in the coming days. The case has raised serious questions about the security of valuables kept in government banks, and further investigation is ongoing. DeshGujarat
