December 17, 2025
Surat: The Surat District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (Sumul Dairy), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and Suzuki R&D Center India Pvt. Ltd. on Tuesday signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a 75 MTPD cow dung-based Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Surat.
The Bajipura-based plant will produce clean CBG along with nutrient-rich organic fertilizers. The project aims to enhance soil health, reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers, promote climate-resilient farming, and create additional income opportunities for dairy farmers. Over two lakh cattle breeders from Surat and Tapi districts associated with Sumul Dairy are expected to benefit from the initiative, which aligns with government policies and subsidies promoting sustainable biogas production.
So far, Sumul Dairy has installed small, family-type biogas plants for 6,543 cattle breeder families, supporting sustainable energy and organic farming practices.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Minesh Shah, Chairman of NDDB; Shri Kenichiro Toyofuku, Director, Suzuki R&D Center India; Shri H.R. Patel, Custodian; and Shri Arun Purohit, Managing Director, Sumul Dairy. DeshGujarat
