PM Modi to Lay Foundation Stones for Two Banas Dairy Bio-CNG Plants in Gujarat on Oct 30
October 28, 2026
Banaskantha: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stones for two new Bio-CNG plants of Banas Dairy in Tharad and Radhanpur from Bhildi in Banaskantha district on October 30, 2026. The plants will process a combined 175 metric tonnes of cattle dung daily to produce clean fuel and organic fertilisers, while providing supplementary income to livestock farmers.
Banas Dairy’s Bio-CNG Model Boosts Farmers’ Income
Under the ‘Banas Model’, Banas Dairy procures cattle dung from livestock farmers and converts it into Bio-CNG and organic fertilisers. The fuel is used in vehicles, while the remaining slurry is processed into solid and liquid organic fertilisers marketed under the brand name ‘Bhumi Amrut’. Bio-CNG is also sold at subsidised rates compared with conventional CNG. Banas Dairy currently sells around 6,100 kg of Bio-CNG daily.
Four Plants Process 340 Tonnes of Cattle Dung Daily
Banaskantha has approximately 28 lakh livestock, including around 24 lakh animals belonging to farmers associated with Banas Dairy. These animals are estimated to generate 24,000 metric tonnes of cattle dung daily.
Banas Dairy began operating its first Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Dama village of Deesa taluka in 2020, with a capacity to process 40 metric tonnes of dung daily. Three additional plants, each with a daily processing capacity of 100 metric tonnes, were subsequently established in Agthala, Bhukhla and Vinchhivadi in partnership with Suzuki Motor Corporation and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
The four operational plants collectively process around 340 metric tonnes of cattle dung daily and can produce approximately 6,150 kg of Bio-CNG, 83 metric tonnes of solid organic fertiliser and 260 metric tonnes of liquid organic fertiliser per day.
The new plants in Tharad and Radhanpur will have processing capacities of 75 and 100 metric tonnes per day, respectively. Their commissioning will take Banas Dairy’s total number of Bio-CNG plants to six, with a combined daily dung-processing capacity of 515 metric tonnes.
Six Plants Expected to Cut Carbon Emissions by Up to 34,600 Tonnes Annually
Cattle dung left in the open can release methane, a greenhouse gas with approximately 28 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide over 100 years. By converting cattle dung into clean fuel, Banas Dairy’s model helps reduce methane emissions.
According to Banas Dairy estimates, its six Bio-CNG plants will collectively prevent around 33,400 to 34,600 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. DeshGujarat
