ACB Gujarat nabs staffers of Cooperative Societies Registrar’s office in bribe case

Surat: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Surat, has booked two current and one retired employee posted at the office of the District Registrar of Cooperative Societies in a bribery case involving ₹20,000.

According to the ACB, the complainant had applied to the Surat District Registrar’s office for registration of a cooperative society. During the process, accused Ghughabhai Dulabhai Gohil, Auditor Grade-II, allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹25,000 to expedite the issuance of the registration certificate. Later, after a negotiation, the complainant met Gohil and Waris Ahmed Sheikh, Office Superintendent (now retired), who allegedly reduced the demand to ₹20,000.

Instead of paying the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB. During the trap operation, accused Waris Ahmed Sheikh reportedly sent Kalpesh Mukeshbhai Chaudhary, an outsourced computer operator, to collect the bribe. Chaudhary allegedly accepted ₹20,000 from the complainant and was caught on the spot. Both Gohil and Sheikh were also apprehended for their collusion in the crime. DeshGujarat
