Cop slaps woman in Ahmedabad; video goes viral

Ahmedabad: A controversy erupted in the city after a video showing a police personnel allegedly slapping a woman near Anjali Char Rasta on Friday evening went viral on social media. However, another video related to the same incident has now surfaced, providing additional context to the episode.

According to the police, the woman rider was stopped after she jumped a traffic signal and was questioned for riding without a helmet. When asked to produce her driving licence, she allegedly began abusing the police personnel and demanded that the policeman show his identity card. During the exchange, she allegedly threw the policeman’s identity card to the ground, following which the policeman lost his temper and slapped the woman during the altercation, before being restrained by other policemen.

A video of the incident subsequently went viral on social media, following which the head constable was suspended from duty immediately.

Meanwhile, in the newly surfaced video, the woman is seen misbehaving with on-duty police personnel prior to the incident. In the clip, she can be heard using abusive language against the police personnel while they were performing their duties.

The policeman involved, identified as Jayanti Jhala, is a head constable posted with the traffic police and was on duty at the junction when the situation escalated. Notably, the number plate of the woman’s vehicle was allegedly tampered with in a manner intended to avoid detection by CCTV cameras, a practice that has reportedly been on the rise in the city.

It has further emerged that the woman had allegedly displayed similar behaviour in the past. A video from around a month ago has also surfaced, showing her allegedly using abusive language against police personnel.

In the earlier incident, which reportedly occurred near Shyamal Crossroads on November 14, 2025, the woman was stopped by the police. During that interaction as well, she allegedly misbehaved with the police, accused them of accepting bribes, and used offensive language, including towards a woman police constable.

With multiple videos now in circulation, the incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media, while authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the matter. DeshGujarat
