Surge in visitors number at Kankariya Carnival; Gates closed
December 27, 2025
Ahmedabad: A large number of citizens and visitors thronged the Kankaria Carnival in Ahmedabad on Saturday, leading to heavy crowding at the venue. As in previous years, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had put in place extensive and well-coordinated arrangements for security, traffic regulation and crowd management during the annual event.
However, on the third day of the carnival, a surge in visitor numbers and traffic congestion prompted the authorities to temporarily close all seven entry gates of the Kankaria Carnival at Kankaria Lake. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to manage the crowd effectively and ensure public safety.
Officials stated that the temporary closure was necessary to avoid overcrowding, facilitate the smooth movement of emergency services, and prevent any untoward incidents. Entry was regulated until the situation eased, following which normal access was restored in a phased manner.
Saturday witnessed live music concert of Parth Oza and musical night by Shivani Desai, along with other stage performances. On Sunday, Geeta Rabari’s Gujarati concert is scheduled along with other events such as Niraj Gajjar and Divya Chaudhary’s Gujarati songs and music event. There will be also rock band performance by Dr. Mitali Nag and Akshay Tamache.
The same situation of overcrowding is likely to persist on Sunday as well. The visitors therefore should take their sit/standing position early to avoid gate closure. DeshGujarat
