Bagdana PI transferred after assault on ashram sevak

Bhavnagar: Days after the attack on Navneetbhai Baldhiya, a sevak of the Bagdana Guru Ashram in Bhavnagar, the Police Inspector of Bagdana Police Station, D.V. Dangar, has been transferred and placed under leave reserve with immediate effect.

The action follows sustained demands and strong representations by members of the Koli community, who had threatened an agitation alleging bias in the police investigation. The community demanded the transfer of the Police Inspector, stating that a fair and impartial probe was not possible under his supervision.

The official complaint was registered against eight unidentified persons in connection with the attack that took place on December 29. In his complaint, the victim levelled serious allegations and later claimed in the media that the assault occurred after he had received a call from Jairaj Ahir, son of noted folk singer Mayabhai Ahir.

In view of mounting public pressure, the administration decided to take action against the Police Inspector and move him to leave reserve. Following the transfer, charge of the Bagdana Police Station has been handed over to K.S. Patel, Police Inspector of Mahuva.

With the change in the investigating officer, attention is now focused on whether fresh revelations will emerge in the high-profile case and whether any substantive evidence links Jairaj Ahir to the case. DeshGujarat
