IMD predicts more unseasonal rain in parts of Gujarat till Friday morning

Ahmedabad: New Year’s Eve witnessed unseasonal rain showers in some parts of Ahmedabad and the Saurashtra–Kutch region of Gujarat. However, cloud activity may shift focus to South Gujarat over the next 24 hours till Friday, according to the latest forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In its latest seven-day forecast, the IMD said, “Light rain is very likely at isolated places in South Gujarat districts, including Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Dang, and Valsad, as well as Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Dry weather is expected to prevail in the remaining districts,” till 8:30 am on January 2.

From Day 2 onwards (January 2 to January 8), dry weather is very likely across all districts of Gujarat, Saurashtra–Kutch, and the Union Territories of Diu, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

The IMD attributed the recent weather activity to a western disturbance persisting as an upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining Punjab, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level, along with a trough aloft in the middle and upper tropospheric levels.

Furthermore, the IMD bulletin said that minimum temperatures rose appreciably in parts of Saurashtra–Kutch, while no significant change was observed across the rest of the state. Minimum temperatures remained appreciably to markedly above normal over most parts of the Gujarat region and Saurashtra, above normal over Kutch, and near normal in the remaining areas.

The IMD has forecast a fall in minimum temperatures by 2–4°C over the next 48 hours. This will be followed by a gradual rise of 2–3°C over the subsequent three days, after which no major change is expected. DeshGujarat
