Govt Clarifies on Reports of “Cracks on Indira Bridge” Connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: Authorities have issued a clarification regarding recent media reports claiming the presence of cracks on the Indira Bridge connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, terming the reports as misleading and factually incorrect.

Following the circulation of these reports, a joint on-site inspection was carried out by the Executive Engineer of Capital Project Division–3 and the Deputy Executive Engineer of Capital Project Sub-Division–18. During the inspection, it was confirmed that the features highlighted in the reports are not structural cracks.

Officials clarified that what was being portrayed as cracks are in fact expansion joints provided between two spans of the bridge. These joints are an essential part of civil engineering design and are intentionally installed to accommodate expansion and contraction of materials due to seasonal temperature variations. They do not indicate any structural damage.

The department further stated that the Indira Bridge undergoes regular technical inspections at periodic intervals. Recently, a comprehensive technical audit was conducted by Infinite Consultant, during which no damage or defect was found in the main structure of the bridge.

Based on these findings, authorities have assured that the Indira Bridge is completely safe for vehicular traffic. Citizens have been advised to continue using the bridge without any fear and to refrain from believing or spreading baseless rumours. DeshGujarat
