GHCAA flags stray dog menace at Gujarat High Court after advocate bitten

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHCAA) today raised serious concerns over the presence of stray dogs on the High Court campus after an advocate was reportedly bitten inside the premises on January 5.

GHCAA President and senior advocate Yatin N. Oza has written to Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal, stating that four to five such incidents were reported in December 2025 alone and that the situation has “worsened and gone out of control” despite earlier representations.

According to the letter, the injured advocate was rushed to hospital, where doctors administered stitches and eight injections due to the severity of the bite. The association said several advocates have narrowly avoided similar incidents, including one case in which an advocate was surrounded by four stray dogs inside the chamber building. Stray dogs, it added, are frequently seen roaming freely across open areas of the campus.

Oza has urged immediate directions to remove stray dogs from the premises, warning of growing discontent among Bar members and citing risks to the safety of advocates, litigants, and support staff.

Furthermore, Oza also attached the earlier letter written by President Brijesh Trivedi regarding the removal of dogs from the premises of the High Court in view of a Supreme Court order. DeshGujarat
