ECI to issue notices to 44 lakh Gujarat voters over electoral roll discrepancies
January 07, 2026
Gandhinagar: Nearly 44 lakh voters across Gujarat whose names appear in the draft electoral rolls are set to receive notices from the Election Commission after discrepancies were found in their details during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Gujarat, most notices will be issued in major urban centres. Ahmedabad alone will account for 9,14,280 notices, with over one-fifth of the total going to the district.
The notices inform voters that required details to verify their eligibility, based on the 2002 SIR, are incomplete or mismatched. Affected voters will be asked to appear before designated officers with documents such as proof of date of birth and, in some cases, residential address to retain their names in the final rolls.
Meanwhile, since December 20, 2025, block-level officers (BLOs) have been visiting housing societies in Ahmedabad and other cities to collect documents directly, often without issuing formal notices. In several cases, voters were told that submitting documents in advance would eliminate the need to visit government offices. DeshGujarat
