Gujarat govt forms Coordination Committee after consensus with Bharatiya Kisan Sangh on farmer’s issues

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has reached an understanding with the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh on several issues concerning farmers and has constituted a high-level coordination committee to ensure effective implementation of the agreed measures, an official press release said today.

Energy Minister Rushikeshbhai Patel said the committee would act as a formal bridge between the government and the farmers’ organisation, facilitating faster resolution of grievances and smoother policy execution.

According to an official statement, a series of meetings were held between the state government and representatives of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh to address various demands raised by the farmers’ body. The first meeting took place on December 30, 2025, in the presence of Ministers Jitu Vaghani, Arjun Modhwadia and Rushikesh Patel. This was followed by further deliberations on January 7, 2026, with Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai and the Energy Minister, and a final concluding meeting was held on January 8, 2026.

Consensus reached, committee formed

At the conclusion of these discussions, consensus was reached on multiple issues, which the government has accepted in principle. To oversee implementation and ensure timely resolution, a Coordination Committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Minister Jitu Vaghani and will include other ministers, namely Kanu Desai, Arjun Modhwadia and Rushikesh Patel.

Senior representatives of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, including Jagmalbhai, R.K. Patel, Shamalbhai, Bhurabhai, Dr Dada Lad and Amritbhai Patel, were present during the deliberations.

The government stated that the decisions taken are in the interest of farmers as well as the broader development of Gujarat and the country.

‘Bridge between farmers and government’

Officials said the coordination committee will function as a direct interface between farmers’ representatives and the government’s implementation machinery. By institutionalising regular communication, the committee is expected to expedite decision-making and address farmers’ issues in a more structured and time-bound manner.

The state government reiterated its commitment to working closely with farmer organisations to resolve concerns through dialogue and cooperative mechanisms. DeshGujarat
