Surat biker dies after trying to save another wrong-side rider; accident CCTV goes viral

Surat: A tragic road accident in the Katargam area claimed the life of a 29-year-old man after an unidentified biker allegedly came from the wrong side, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle and fall under a city bus. The incident, which occurred on the Phulpada–Ratnamala Road, was captured on CCTV.

The deceased has been identified as Nikunjbhai Subhashbhai Savani, a resident of Silver Luxury on Utran VIP Road and the owner of a diamond manufacturing unit.

According to the police, the accident occurred on Friday morning when Nikunj was riding a motorcycle along with his acquaintance, Ketan, to attend to a machine repair. As they were passing the between Phulpada and Ratnamala, an unidentified biker allegedly approached from the wrong side at high speed.

In an attempt to avoid a collision, Nikunj applied the brakes suddenly. Due to the wet road and loss of balance, the motorcycle skidded, throwing both riders onto the road. At the same time, a city bus was passing alongside and before the bus driver could apply brakes, one of the bus’s tyres ran over Nikunj, causing critical injuries. Locals and passers-by rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Ketan, who was riding pillion, sustained minor injuries and is reported to be in shock. The biker who allegedly came from the wrong side fled the scene.

Upon receiving information, Katargam police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. A case has been registered against the city bus driver, and CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify and trace the biker who was allegedly riding on the wrong side and triggered the accident.
