Surat Innovator’s Remote Controlled Kite Flying without String Goes Viral

Surat: Every Uttarayan, the skies fill with color—and danger. Glass-coated strings injure birds and claim human lives. Troubled by this reality, Surat’s young researcher Vicky Vakharia asked a simple question with powerful consequences: Can a kite fly without a string?

From that thought was born a remarkable innovation—a stringless, wind-free kite controlled by a remote. Flying effortlessly day and night, glowing with special lights, the kite moves like a butterfly in the sky, performing loops and dives without harming birds or people.

Along with his friends Bhavesh Gosai, Pratham Mawapuri and Parth Lakdia, Vicky worked tirelessly to overcome technical challenges. Today, over 15 such kites in four designs have been created, each symbolizing safety, technology and environmental care.

The invention has taken Surat’s name across borders, soaring in international kite festivals in Indonesia, Singapore and China. Vicky won a silver prize in China and even flew the kite alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Indonesia.

More than just a kite, it is a vision—one where festivals remain joyful, skies stay colorful, and lives are protected.
