Ahmedabad Customs seize Millions of Dollars, Pound, Gold from passengers

Ahmedabad: On specific intelligence, Air Intelligence Unit(AIU) of Ahmedabad Customs, at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport in Ahmedabad, intercepted a passenger departing to Bangkok by VZ-571 on January 14 today and seized undeclared US Dollars and Great British Pounds worth ₹42.06 lakh under Customs Act & FEMA. Investigation was underway on why such a big amount was being carried and what was the purpose and whether the activity is linked to Narco, cyber fraud or any other crime.
In another incident, based on intelligence, AIU Ahmedabad Customs intercepted two male passengers departing to Bangkok by Thai Lion Air SL-213. Undeclared foreign currency US dollar, British Pound and Australia Dollars valued at ₹ 44 lakh seized for violations of Customs Act, 1962 & FEMA.
In one more development, Ahmedabad Customs, based on passenger profiling, intercepted a male passenger arriving from Kuala Lumpur via flight Air Asia AK-91. One 310.12 gms 24Kt gold bar (Market Value ₹44.05 lakh) concealed in jeans pocket was seized frin him under Customs Act, 1962. DeshGujarat
