₹104 crore returned to Gujarat citizens under ‘Your Money, Your Right’ campaign: Govt
January 19, 2026
Gandhinagar: The nationwide financial awareness campaign under the tagline ‘Your Money, Your Right’ was launched in Gandhinagar in October 2025 in the presence of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Under the campaign, an amount of Rs 104.61 crore, representing citizens’ rightful savings, has been returned in Gujarat as of December 31, 2025, a government press release said.
A total of 26,874 claims were filed in the state from the launch of the campaign until December 2025. After verification as per prescribed norms, the claimed amounts were credited to the account holders by the concerned banks.
The campaign conveys a simple yet powerful message: every rupee saved by citizens must be returned to them or their families. Unclaimed deposits, insurance proceeds, dividends, mutual fund balances, and pensions are not merely accounting entries but valuable lifetime savings earned through the hard work of ordinary families. Recovering these funds strengthens education, healthcare, and long-term financial security, an official statement said.
It is noteworthy that as of August 31, 2025, banks across the country had transferred unclaimed deposits worth over Rs 75,000 crore to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). In addition, unclaimed amounts include approximately Rs 14,000 crore in the insurance sector, Rs 3,000 crore in mutual funds, Rs 9,000 crore in companies, and Rs 19,000 crore in shares. In total, around Rs 1.82 lakh crore remains unclaimed nationwide. The gradual return of these funds is now providing significant relief to poor and middle-class families.
In Gujarat, nearly Rs 2,836.80 crore remains unclaimed in public sector banks and about Rs 235 crore in insurance companies. Of this, around Rs 1,836.80 crore has been recovered through the campaign by December 2025, while Rs 104.61 crore has already been returned to rightful claimants.
To maximise outreach, special awareness drives are being conducted across all departments of the Gujarat government, ensuring that eligible citizens receive their pending funds at their doorsteps.
The campaign builds on India’s major achievements in financial inclusion—from Jan Dhan Yojana and UPI to Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)—ensuring that citizens not only gain access to financial services but also reclaim funds legally owed to them. To encourage nationwide participation, the campaign was implemented across all states and union territories, including Gujarat, for three months from October to December 2025. Digital displays and helpdesks assisted citizens in locating and claiming unclaimed financial assets.
Notably, the campaign is coordinated by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the Ministry of Finance and provides a unified platform in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA), along with banks, insurance companies, mutual funds, and pension institutions.
