Row over ‘MP’ board on former Amreli MP’s car; ex-parliamentarian denies allegations
January 20, 2026
Amreli: A fresh controversy has erupted in Amreli over the use of red nameplates bearing the designation “Sansad” on the vehicles of a former Member of Parliament, prompting a complaint to Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi seeking strict action.
In a written representation submitted to Sanghavi, Amreli resident Nathalal Sukhadiya alleged that former Amreli MP Naranbhai Kachhadiya continues to display red board nameplates marked “Sansad (MP)” on his vehicles despite no longer holding the post.
According to the complaint, two four-wheelers bearing registration numbers GJ-14-A-6150 and GJ-14-BJ-0150 are fitted with red nameplates indicating “MP”. It has been alleged that this creates a false public impression, violates traffic regulations, and amounts to misuse of an official designation to exert influence and display authority among the general public.
The complainant stated that earlier representations were made on April 16, 2025, to the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Amreli, as well as to the District Superintendent of Police.
Subsequently, the ARTO clarified that any legal action related to misleading the public falls under the jurisdiction of the police department and advised appropriate action by the district police.
Meanwhile, responding to the controversy, former MP Naranbhai Kachhadiya rejected all allegations, calling them baseless. He stated that the vehicle does not falsely claim his current status but merely mentions that he was an MP during a specific term, along with the relevant tenure details.
