Surat gets new flyover bridge; foundation stone laid for another

Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Friday inaugurated a 2×3 lane flyover bridge in the South Zone-A (Udhna) area and performed the foundation stone-laying ceremony for a 2×2 lane flyover bridge in the South East Zone (Limbayat). The twin events were held in the presence of C. R. Patil, Union Minister for Jal Shakti, and Dakshesh Mavani, Mayor of Surat.

The 2×3 lane flyover, constructed under the EPC model, has been built on the Bhimrad–Siddharthanagar–Dindoli Road near Naveen Florin Junction, crossing the Surat–Navsari Road. The flyover is 502 metres long and 22.5 metres wide and is connected to a 45-metre-wide cement concrete road. One end links the Bhimrad area, while the other connects Bhestan and Karadva areas through the ongoing Siddharthanagar Railway Overbridge project over the canal. At present, the bridge will be opened for limited use to facilitate traffic coming from Bhagwatinagar Industrial Area and Udhna Main Road. Once the Siddharthanagar Railway Overbridge is completed, the flyover will provide parallel connectivity from National Highway-48 to National Highway-53 and Surat Airport, resulting in significant savings in travel time and fuel and giving a boost to industrial development in the area. The project has been completed at a cost of Rs 34.01 crore.

Additionaly, the foundation stone for a 2×2 lane flyover bridge was laid at Sanjaynagar Circle on Nilgiri Road in the Limbayat Zone. The proposed flyover will be constructed on a 45-metre-wide Town Planning road, passing through Nilgiri Circle and Sanjaynagar Circle. With the completion of the ring road and rapid urban expansion, vehicular traffic from areas such as Parvat, Godadara, Dindoli, Kharwasa, Kumbhariya and Devdhani towards Surat city has increased substantially. The presence of several schools near Nilgiri Circle, heavy truck movement due to the Udhna railway yard, and multiple connectivity routes have led to growing congestion at both junctions, raising safety concerns for schoolchildren and causing loss of time and fuel.

To address peak-hour traffic congestion, improve road safety, and reduce pollution, the flyover project has been planned at an estimated cost of Rs 66.38 crore. Upon completion, it is expected to provide major relief from traffic bottlenecks and improve overall connectivity in the Limbayat area. DeshGujarat
