RRU Gandhinagar to house tri-services weapons museum
January 26, 2026
Gandhinagar: The Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) will have the country’s first museum of weapons from all three armed forces wings, which will also display arms seized during the Indo-Pakistan and Indo-China wars.
This gallery will be of special help to students studying the art of war, internal security and strategic matters. Currently, an arms gallery exists at the university.
The arms gallery will be developed into a full-fledged museum by June. This museum will be the country’s first ‘tri-services’ collection.
This museum will be set up under the ‘School of Internal Security, Defence and Strategic Studies’ department of RRU.
The centrepiece of the gallery is a collection of iconic armoured platforms, including the Infantry Combat Vehicle, the ARV-T55 model and historic T-55 tanks. Most of the weapons were used in the 1971 Indo-Pak War and the 1999 Kargil War, representing combat capability. Their presence provides an opportunity for students and researchers to study armoured warfare, crew ergonomics and tactical employment, said Dr Mohammad Yusuf, Assistant Professor.
Weapons from the Kargil War, including those from Britain, will also be on display
The gallery will feature small arms, machine guns, mortars, recoilless rifles and support weapons from Britain, India, Pakistan, China and other countries. These include classic Lee-Enfield .303 rifles, 7.62 mm self-loading rifles, Bren light machine guns, Browning and FN MAG machine guns, mortars and anti-tank recoilless systems. Each weapon carries a story from the 1947–48, 1962, 1965, 1971 and Kargil wars. DeshGujarat
