Former India cricketer held for drunk driving accident in Vadodara

Vadodara: Former Indian cricketer Jacob Joseph Martin has been arrested after he allegedly caused an accident in the Akota area of Vadodara in the early hours of January 26 by driving a luxury car under the influence of alcohol. Police said the cricketer lost control of his vehicle and rammed into three cars parked on the roadside, causing significant damage.

According to Akota police, the incident occurred around 2:30 am when Martin was returning home from Punitnagar Society in his MG Hector. Due to intoxication, he reportedly failed to control the steering, resulting in a collision with a Kia Seltos, Hyundai Venue, and Maruti Celerio parked along the road. All three vehicles were heavily damaged in the crash.

A team from the emergency response unit and Akota police rushed to the spot after receiving information. Police said that when he was nabbed, Martin appeared heavily drunk, with red eyes and an unsteady gait. Police registered a case against him under sections 281 and 324(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 177, 184 and 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act and section 66(1)B of the Prohibition Act. His MG Hector, reportedly worth around Rs 20 lakh, has been seized and further investigation is underway.

Jacob Martin has previously been linked to controversies, including an earlier liquor party case in Vadodara where police arrested him and others during a gathering. His name has also surfaced in other disputes in the past. DeshGujarat
