275 motorists booked for using illegal white LED lights in Ahmedabad in Jan

Ahmedabad: Acting on directives from the state Transport Department to curb the use of illegal white LED lights on vehicles, the Subhash Bridge Regional Transport Office (RTO) registered 275 cases in the first 28 days of January 2026, collecting fines totalling ₹2.75 lakh, officials said.
The use of high-intensity LED lights has surged across Gujarat, causing glare and reduced visibility for other road users and increasing accident risks. Subhash Bridge RTO officer Nirav Bakshi said enforcement has been intensified following recent orders. According to Bakshi, in 2025, the RTO booked 1,086 cases and recovered nearly ₹11 lakh in fines, while in the first 28 days of January this year, 275 motorists were booked and fines amounting to ₹2.75 lakh were collected.
Officials noted that the drive is being carried out despite manpower shortages, and inspections will continue at major traffic junctions and corridors. Motorists have been urged to follow prescribed lighting norms, with repeat violations likely to attract stricter action. Deshgujarat
