Squally winds likely along Gujarat coast; IMD issues fishermen warning

Ahmedabad: Fishermen along the Gujarat coast have been warned of squally winds and very rough sea conditions due to a steep pressure gradient. The advisory, issued for a five-day period from January 29 to February 2, 2026, cautions that strong winds are expected on January 29, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

According to the forecast, squally winds with speeds of 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off the North Gujarat coast, including areas such as Jakhau, Mandvi, Mundra, Kandla, Okha, Jamnagar, Porbandar, and nearby ports. The sea is expected to remain very rough, and fishermen have been urged to avoid these areas.

A similar warning has been issued for the South Gujarat coast, covering coastal regions such as Veraval, Diu, Pipavav, Bhavnagar, Dahej, Magdalla, and Daman. Northerly to northeasterly winds may reach the same intensity, making sea conditions unsafe. However, no warnings have been issued for the open sea during this period.

The advisory also states that squally winds with speeds of 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are likely to prevail over many parts of the Comorin area today and tomorrow. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into that region as well. DeshGujarat
