February 02, 2026
Gandhidham: In an anti-encroachment drive, the Gandhidham Municipal Corporation, in coordination with the Railway Department, carried out a joint demolition operation to clear illegal encroachments near the railway line in the Bharat Nagar area.
According to officials, a recent survey conducted by the civic body found a large number of unauthorised structures and kutcha houses occupying railway-adjacent land. Authorities said these encroachments were posing risks to railway safety and disrupting traffic movement. During the drive, more than 95 illegal structures were removed using JCB machines.
Officials stated that notices had been issued to encroachers around 10 days ago, warning them to clear the land voluntarily within the stipulated period. After the deadline expired, the demolition was carried out under strict police security. A heavy police deployment was made at the site to prevent any unrest, though the operation remained peaceful as most occupants had already been informed in advance. DeshGujarat
