Surat Traffic Police hold meeting with dealers to ‘stop sale’ of white lights, loud horns
February 04, 2026
Surat: In a bid to curb rising road accidents and noise pollution in the city, the Surat Traffic Police has stepped up action against the use of prohibited white LED lights, modified horns, and silencers. As part of the drive, the police recently held a key meeting with automobile dealers and garage operators, warning them against selling or fitting such illegal accessories.
The meeting was chaired by Surat Traffic DCP Panna Momaya, who appealed to dealers and sellers to cooperate with law enforcement. Police officials said the availability of these dangerous modifications in the market directly contributes to their misuse on roads. During the meeting, all dealers and garage operators were made to pledge that they would neither install nor store or sell modified silencers, horns, or white lights in any vehicle going forward.
Explaining the need for strict measures, DCP Momaya said accidents are increasing across the state due to the excessive use of high-intensity white LED lights, which often blind other drivers at night. She added that unnecessary honking also disrupts schools and the environment, causes distress to senior citizens, and creates difficulties for patients in hospitals.
The Traffic Police has also launched a ‘No Hawking’ drive in Surat from February 1, as part of broader efforts to improve road safety and discipline.
Officials said the department is currently focusing on awareness and persuasion, following a “first awareness, then strict action” approach. However, the police warned that legal action will be taken against dealers or motorists found violating the rules in the coming days.
The Surat Traffic Police said the ultimate goal is to reduce accidents, control noise pollution, and work towards making Surat a safer and more peaceful “Silent City.” DeshGujarat
