Vejalpur MLA Gives Report Card on his Actions against Disturbed Areas Act Violations in Ahmedabad
February 04, 2026
Ahmedabad: Amit Thakar, the BJP MLA representing the Vejalpur constituency, has launched a rigorous campaign against what he describes as the blatant circumvention of the Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) in the Makarba and Vejalpur areas. Raising alarms over demographic shifts, the MLA has moved to halt several high-rise constructions, citing legal restrictions intended to maintain communal harmony.
Thakar explained that certain developers have utilized legal loopholes to bypass initial DAA hurdles. By structuring land deals between members of the same community, builders avoid the immediate scrutiny of the Act.
A primary example cited was the “Palm Jumeirah” project. “The land was transferred from a Hindu owner to a Hindu builder, a transaction that does not trigger DAA restrictions under current laws,” Thakar noted. However, he alleges that the ultimate intent is to sell these units to Muslim buyers. Thakar described this as a deceptive tactic to “mislead” buyers into purchasing property in areas where final legal permissions for inter-community transfers will be blocked by the law.
Presenting a comprehensive map of the region from Sonal Road to DAV School, Thakar highlighted the historical demographic boundaries that have existed for over 50 years. He asserted that his opposition is a “suo motu” responsibility as a vigilant representative of the people.
Projects Halted: Construction at sites like ‘Al Hamd’ and various TP (Town Planning) schemes, including roads in TP 84 and TP 92, has been stalled following Thakar’s representations.
Infrastructure Objections: Thakar claimed that proposed roads through the 500-year-old Sarkhej village would have destroyed the area’s heritage, leading to a total work stoppage.
Ongoing Legal Battles: The MLA is currently contesting a transfer in the ‘Orchid Woods’ tower and has successfully blocked flat allotments in the ‘Krishnadham’ (AUDA) project to prevent demographic changes.
“Our party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, is committed to protecting the lives and property of the people. We will not allow the peace of this area to be disturbed or the law to be undermined,” Thakar stated.
In a warning aimed at protecting citizens from financial loss, Thakar issued a direct message to the Muslim community, urging them to avoid investing in these controversial projects.
“I request Muslim citizens not to throw their money away by purchasing flats in ‘Palm Jumeirah,’ ‘Al Hamd,’ or surrounding areas,” Thakar stated. “Because the Disturbed Areas Act is in effect there, permission for inter-community transfer will not be granted under any circumstances. Their money will go down the drain.”
Thakar concluded by challenging builders to develop projects for the Hindu community within Hindu-majority areas, stating he has no objection to legitimate commerce that respects the existing legal and social fabric of the constituency. DeshGujarat
