Illegal possession of Army-style Gypsy; two declared wanted in Gujarat

Kutch: Local police have registered a case against two individuals for illegally possessing and modifying a Gypsy vehicle resembling one used by the Indian Army without permission from the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Officials stated that such vehicles, in Army colour and specification, cannot be kept by private persons.

The accused have been identified as Bhuto Osmangini Padiyar and Hanif Jakab Bawa Padiyar, both of whom have been declared wanted. The case has been registered at Kothara Police Station.

Kothara police seized the unauthorised Gypsy from Nudhat village in Abdasa taluka. The action is linked to a violent incident reported on January 25, 2026, on the outskirts of Miyani village, in which two cross-complaints were filed. Following the incident, teams from the Local Crime Branch (LCB), Special Operations Group (SOG), and Kothara Police Station carried out a special combing operation to trace the suspects.

During the operation, a Gypsy bearing registration number GJ-12-FC-5249, painted and structured similarly to Indian Army vehicles, was recovered from the residence of accused Hanif Jakab Bawa Padiyar in Nudhat.

Verification at the RTO office in Bhuj confirmed that private individuals are not permitted to keep such Army-style vehicles and that no approval had been obtained for the modifications made. Consequently, legal action has been initiated at Kothara Police Station under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Central Motor Vehicles Rules, and the Motor Vehicles Act against the vehicle owner Bhuto Osmangini Padiyar and occupant Hanif Jakab Bawa Padiyar.
