February 10, 2026
Godhra: A sessions court in Godhra has sentenced two men to 10 years’ imprisonment for possessing 53 kg of bovine meat. The accused, Mehboob Saburiya and Farhan Saburiya, both residents of Godhra, were caught on July 9, 2024, after their car broke down on Hamirpur Road and a police patrol found them with the contraband.
Police recovered knives and axes from the vehicle and a urea sack filled with meat from the boot. Forensic tests confirmed the meat was bovine, leading to charges under the amended Gujarat Animal Preservation Act. The court of Additional Sessions Judge R. R. Patel also imposed a ₹2 lakh fine on each of the two convicts.
A third accused, Salim Bhai Jamal, who was named by the duo as the supplier, was acquitted as the case against him relied solely on their statements. DeshGujarat
