Cop attacked, threatened in Dahod; six booked

Dahod: A police officer was injured after a patrol team was attacked during a prohibition raid in Chharchhoda–Simoda Faliya, falling under the Jesawada police station limits in Dahod district.

Police said a team led by ASI Siraj Abdullah Sheikh had reached the spot following a tip-off about illegal liquor. During the raid, officers seized 51 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor worth ₹11,546, along with other material, taking the total value of the confiscated goods to ₹16,546. While ASI Sheikh was preparing the seizure panchnama, local bootleggers allegedly gathered and attacked the police team, obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duty.

During the scuffle, accused Kanti Motibhai Bhabhor allegedly grabbed the ASI by the collar, tearing his shirt, while another accused, Sarul Kantibhai Bhabhor, reportedly blocked the government vehicle and created further obstruction. The accused also allegedly hurled abuses and issued death threats to the police personnel in a public place. ASI Sheikh sustained an injury to his elbow in the incident.

Jesawada police have registered an offence against Naval Harsingh Bhabhor, Kanti Motibhai Bhabhor, Sarul Kantibhai Bhabhor, Satish Kantibhai Bhabhor, Manjulaben Bhabhor, and Shantaben Bhabhor, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.

It is learnt that six incidents of attacks on police teams during liquor raids have been reported in Dahod district over the past one-and-a-half years, particularly in border areas such as Jesawada, Garbada, Dhanpur, and Katwara. DeshGujarat
