Gallery collapse at Sant Vinoba Nagar in Ahmedabad traps 20-25 residents

Ahmedabad: A gallery collapse in Block 1 of Sant Vinobabhave Nagar near Sukhramnagar in the Amraiwadi area of the city left 20–25 residents stranded inside their houses, prompting an immediate rescue operation by fire brigade teams.
Emergency responders rushed to the spot after receiving alerts, deploying multiple vehicles and using ladders to reach those stranded inside their homes. Fire brigade personnel have so far rescued about 8–10 people, while evacuation efforts for others continue. According to initial information, nearly seven people sustained minor to moderate injuries in the incident. No fatalities have been reported.
The collapse occurred in a dilapidated block of the slum quarters where civic authorities had earlier issued structural safety notices. Officials said a similar gallery collapse had taken place previously, raising concerns over the safety of residents living in deteriorating buildings. Teams from the police, fire brigade, and the municipal estate department’s East Zone have reached the site to manage the situation.
