Domino’s Pizza Outlet Fined in Ahmedabad for Excess Billing
February 17, 2026
Ahmedabad: A consumer commission has directed Domino’s Pizza to refund an excess charge of ₹49 to customers and pay ₹3,000 as compensation for mental distress and litigation costs.
The case was filed by Saroj Kumar Naik and Sasmita Naik, residents near Vaishnodevi Circle, who ordered pizza from the Domino’s Khoraj outlet on December 25, 2024. While the online bill showed ₹313, the delivery executive demanded ₹361.57, citing additional taxes and charges. The couple paid the extra amount but later raised complaints through email and customer care, which remained unresolved.
They then approached the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Ahmedabad (Rural). Despite notices, no representative from the restaurant appeared before the commission. Observing that charging more than the online bill without justification amounted to deficiency in service and unfair trade practice, the commission ruled in favour of the customers.
The panel ordered refund of ₹49 with 9% interest, along with ₹2,000 for mental agony and ₹1,000 towards litigation costs.
