Unseasonal rain hits parts of Gujarat; cloudy weather in some areas
February 18, 2026
Ahmedabad: While the state is witnessing a transitional phase between the retreat of winter and the gradual onset of summer, unseasonal rainfall has been reported in some eastern districts since late last night.
In Panchmahal district, light unseasonal showers were recorded in Godhra and nearby eastern parts of Ghoghamba after two days of persistent cloud cover.
Similar conditions prevailed in Dahod and surrounding rural areas, including Singvad, Limkheda, Chhapari, Ralyati, Jalat, and Rabdal, where rain accompanied by lightning was reported. The unexpected showers have heightened anxiety among farmers, particularly due to the risk posed to standing crops during this sensitive seasonal period.
Similarly, a sudden shift in weather has also been observed in the Ambaji region, where dense cloud cover since early morning has lowered temperatures. Farmers fear that any further unseasonal rainfall or frost-like conditions could cause significant damage to wheat crops.
Meanwhile, the unseasonal rain was not forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which had predicted a rise of 2–3°C in both minimum and maximum temperatures over the next 48 hours, with temperatures likely to remain above normal for February as heat conditions gradually intensify.
Although maximum temperatures in some parts of Gujarat have recently touched around 32°C, the sudden spell of rain and cloudiness has temporarily altered local atmospheric conditions. DeshGujarat
