6.4 kg cannabis seized at Surat airport from two flyers arriving from Bangkok
February 19, 2026
Surat: The Customs Department at Surat International Airport has foiled a major drug smuggling attempt after seizing 6.40 kg of high-grade cannabis from two passengers arriving on a flight from Bangkok.
During inspection, officials found that the two male passengers had cleverly concealed the contraband. The cannabis had been packed into around 30 small plastic packets and hidden inside their luggage in a manner designed to evade routine checks. However, based on X-ray screening and suspicious movement, the Customs team detected and recovered the illegal consignment.
Authorities noted that this is the second major seizure at Surat Airport within just two days, raising concerns that smugglers may be attempting to use the airport as a new narcotics transit route.
Both passengers have been arrested, and a case has been registered against them under the NDPS Act, officials said. DeshGujarat
