Gujarat Congress Leaders Meet Party Leadership in Delhi
February 19, 2026
Ahmedabad: With the political atmosphere in Gujarat intensifying ahead of the upcoming local body elections, state party leaders held a meeting with the party high command in New Delhi. The meeting took place in the presence of Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi, where detailed discussions were held on the future course and organisational strategy of the Gujarat Congress.
Nearly all prominent leaders of the Gujarat unit attended the meeting, including state president Shaktisinh Gohil, Leader of Opposition Amit Chavda, and senior leaders Tushar Chaudhary, Bharatsinh Solanki, Paresh Dhanani, and Jagdish Thakor.
The primary agenda of the meeting was reportedly to review the party’s work in Gujarat over the past six months. The party is also likely to form separate election committees for each district and city, enabling candidate selection at the local level. Senior leaders may be assigned responsibility as in-charges of districts and cities, with announcements expected by the end of this month, according to reports.
The party is also preparing for the 2027 Gujarat Assembly polls, as the Aam Aadmi Party is increasingly being seen as a significant vote-cutter for the main opposition.
Having remained out of power in Gujarat for a prolonged period, the upcoming local body elections are being viewed as a litmus test for the Congress. To counter the BJP’s dominance, the party is now focusing on micro-level planning and organisational restructuring.
