Rajkot Civic Body Gears Up for Mega Demolition Drive in Jangleshwar
February 19, 2026
Rajkot: A major demolition drive is set to be carried out in the Jangleshwar area and nearby localities starting Monday, February 23, with the Municipal Corporation completing extensive preparations for the operation.
Civic authorities have already instructed officials from Wards 2, 3, 7, 13, 14, and 17 to remain on standby, while supervisors and contractors have been directed to be present during the action. The mega demolition is expected to involve 21 JCB machines, 26 tractors, two Hitachi excavators, around 150 labourers, 38 gas cutters, and 18 tractor-mounted breakers, along with pre-listed drivers and machine operators to ensure smooth execution.
Earlier, municipal teams visited the locality and conducted door-to-door interactions, explaining the demolition process and urging residents to remove valuables and relocate their belongings in advance. Teams were deployed across the stretch from Garden Smashan to Chistiya Chowk as part of preparatory measures, creating a tense atmosphere in the area.
The development follows recent notices issued to 1,357 property owners for the removal of encroachments in Jangleshwar. However, these properties have received a temporary stay from the High Court after residents approached the court. Municipal authorities are now preparing to remove other illegal encroachments not covered by the stay.
Last year, notices were also served to over 1,000 residents in the Sagarnagar, Laludi Vokali, and Jangleshwar areas, directing them to vacate encroached land or submit supporting ownership documents. With many unable to provide valid proof, demolition in parts of the area now appears imminent.
The impending action has triggered anxiety and protests among local residents, many of whom fear losing their shelter if the demolition proceeds. Officials maintain that the drive targets unauthorised encroachments and will be conducted in accordance with legal provisions. DeshGujarat
